The counterpart to grants.gov for the private sector is
The Foundation Center’s website. This site has vast information about more than 10,000 charitable foundations. Each listing gives a brief history of the foundation; identifies its areas of interest (e.g., women’s health, K-12 education); its assets; its geographical range; the range of grant awards (e.g., $50,000 to $150,000); and its application procedures. There also is a link to each foundation’s website, if it has one, and to the 990-PF forms it has filed with the Internal Revenue Service in recent years. The 990-PF forms are an invaluable resource for grantseekers (for more information, see the 990-PF listing elsewhere). An introductory level of data is available for free. Much more is available by paid subscription.
The fee-based information can be obtained without charge at the Foundation Center’s offices in New York, Washington, Atlanta, Cleveland and San Francisco, or at branches it has established throughout the country, including the
Foundation Information Network through the School of Public Affairs and Administration at Rutgers University-Newark.
