2018 AAPAM Gold Medal Award Call for Nominations


The African Association for Public Administration and Management (AAPAM) announces a call for nominations for the fifth (5th) Gold Medal Award to be awarded in Gaborone, Botswana during the 39th AAPAM Annual Round-table Conference.

The Gold Medal Award was launched at the AAPAM 27th Roundtable Conference in Livingstone, Zambia in 2005 as a recognition to individuals who have made outstanding contribution to Public Administration and management. It is the highest and most prestigious honour conferred by AAPAM to an individual in celebration of achievement and excellence. It marks the exceptional achievements of a person who has shown distinctive leadership or made significant contribution to the advancement of excellence in public administration and management in Africa.

Past Gold Award Winners include, Dr. Adebayo Adedeji of Nigeria (2007), Prof. Gelase Mutahaba of Tanzania (2009), Prof. Malcolm Wallis of South Africa (2011) and Ambassador Francis Muthaura of Kenya (2015).

The specific objectives of the Award are:
  • To recognize persons in the Public Service who have made outstanding contributions in the field of Public Administration and Management in Africa
  • To inspire other public servants to work towards achieving excellence in field of Administration and Management
  • To achieve foster excellence in Public Administration and Management in Africa

On behalf of the AAPAM Executive Committee, AAPAM calls for nominations of a person/people who you think merits this important and prestigious AAPAM Award. The Conditions and Procedures of the Award are available here. Please note: nominations require three signatures of either colleagues or other distinguished persons and that an independent Committee of five (5) Judges shall select the person who, in its opinion, is the outstanding candidate among those nominated for the Award.
