Accountability Cases Now Available

The American Society for Public Administration (ASPA) and its Center for Accountability and Performance (CAP) are pleased to announce the publication and availability of Accountability Cases.

This innovative series, edited by Robert Schwartz and Daniel W. Williams, uses real-world cases to illuminate concepts in accountability. Cases are designed to provoke thinking about accountability dilemmas and policy decisions that public servants are likely to encounter in their professional careers.

Accountability Cases meets a long-felt need for high quality tools to be used in learning about accountability. Cases raise issues and dilemmas by linking theoretical perspectives with tangible experiences and are a cost-effective resource for educators and workshop leaders. Each case comes ready for classroom use with questions and/or role-playing exercises to help guide the discussion. Accountability Cases can also be purchased individually and used as a self-study exercise.

The first cases published in this series, The New York Police Officer: Democratic and Moral Accountability in Conflict, by Sarah Ryan and Daniel W. Williams, Elusive Accountability: The Versailles Case, by Robert Schwartz, Quorum Query: A Walk Around Legal and Political Accountability?, by Rita Ormsby, and Mental State of Inquiry: Tragedy, Policy and Accountability in the Case of the Ritchie Inquiry, by Raanan Sulitzeanu-Kenan, are now available for sale in PDF format by visiting the ASPA Store or by clicking on the title above.

Abstracts for all of the cases are available for review in PDF format here

The cases debuted at a professional development workshop conducted by Robert Schwartz, University of Toronto, at a recent ASPA Conference in Washington, DC. Participants commented on how useful and relevant the cases were.

For a limited time, the cost for each copy you plan to print is only $3.00 with no shipping costs. Simply select the quantity you need to print when ordering. After payment is verified (normally the next business day), a password protected PDF file will be emailed to you.

If you would like to purchase a case in your classroom or workshop and you have 10 participants, the cost is only $30. Alternately, you can simply direct your students to purchase Accountability Cases directly from ASPA.

Available immediately for adoption!
