The
American Review of Public Administration aspires to be the premier
academic journal in the field of public affairs and public administration.
As an assiduously peer-reviewed journal, the American Review of Public
Administration features articles that address rapidly emerging issues
in public affairs and public administration, and is open to both traditional
and non-traditional approaches. Of particular interest are theory-based
empirical research; reviews or syntheses of research; and conceptual/theoretical
discussions on or over the boundaries of traditional public affairs
and public administration.
Manuscripts
are subjected to blind peer review, typically accomplished in less than
ninety days. Time from final acceptance to publication is normally nine
to twelve months. Acceptance rate for manuscripts submitted over the
last four years has averaged seventeen percent.
Manuscript
Submission
Manuscripts should be submitted electronically to Manuscript Central
where authors will be required to set up an online account on the SageTrack system
powered by ScholarOne. Submission of a manuscript implies a commitment by the author
to publish in the journal, if the manuscript is accepted, and the editors assume that
any manuscript submitted to ARPA is not currently under consideration by any other
journal. Manuscripts between 20 and 30 pages are especially welcome. Manuscripts
are subjected to blind peer review and require the author's name(s) and affiliation
listed in a separate file. Any other identification, including any references in
the manuscript, the notes, the title, and reference sections should be removed from
the paper and listed in a separate file. Accepted submissions must conform to the
Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA), latest edition.
Each submission should also include an abstract between 100-150 words and a brief
biographical sketch of each author, in separate files.

The objective of the Public Integrity (PI) is to further the understanding
of ethics in government by publishing articles of interest to practitioners
and scholars. Especially appropriate are research studies, cases, exemplar
profiles, field reports, and commentaries that address both the compliance
and developmental approaches to ethics.
They
may explore functional areas (e.g., budgeting, personnel), substantive
fields (e.g., health, environment, defense), and topical issues (e.g.,
quality, productivity) found in public administration and affairs. Investigations
may focus on any level of government (local, state, national, international),
any of its branches (legislative, judicial, executive), nongovernmental
actors that affect public policy (the press, interest groups, as well
as non-profit organizations) and public-private sector relationships.
Manuscript
Submissions
Papers,
divided into suitable sections and subsections, should be 12-30 typewritten,
double-spaced pages. Include an abstract and biographical sketch of
approximately 50 words each. Author name, affiliation, and e-mail address
should appear only on a separate cover page to facilitate review.
Please
follow the style manual of the American Psychological Association (4th
edition). Submission implies that the manuscript has not been published
elsewhere, and is not under consideration by another journal.
Manuscripts
may be submitted by e-mail to jwest@exchange.sba.miami.edu.
Electronic submissions should be prepared using MS Word software (MS
Word 97 preferred). Practitioner authors are encouraged to be broadly
reflective on their practice of governance. Academic authors are expected
to specify the implications of their work for practice. Please identify
submission as regular article, case study, exemplar profile, commentary,
or report from the field.

Public Voices is a unique journal that focuses on historical, artistic
and reflective expression concerning public administrators and the public
service. Published by the National Center for Public Productivity (NCPP),
it is now accepting submissions for Volume VI.
Public
Voices is sponsored by Rutgers University – Campus at Newark and the
University of Illinois at Springfield.
Unlike
traditional social science journals, Public Voices publishes unorthodox,
controversial perspectives on bureaucracy in particular and the public
sector in general. We seek submissions from public servants, writers,
artists, and academics in all fields. In addition to analytical articles,
submissions may include original fiction, poetry, photographs, art,
critiques of existing works, and insights based on experience, observation
and research. Especially encouraged are manuscripts that explore ethical
dilemmas and public controversies, discuss value conflicts, or generate
new ideas for improving public service and public organizations. Personal
essays that relate fictionalized experiences in government agencies
are also welcome.
All
submissions will be evaluated on a blind, peer-reviewed basis.
