Delaware Chapter Announces Awards Dinner
The Delaware Chapter of ASPA is holding an Annual Awards Dinner on December 15, 2016. Details are as follows:

The Chapter is currently seeking nominations for two awards:
1) The Outstanding Student Public Service Award and
2) The Public Service Award
Below is information about each award.
The
Outstanding Student Public Service Award is presented each year to a graduate student who best exemplifies the caliber of achievement necessary for a successful public service career. The $500 award is presented at the Annual Awards Dinner. The competition is open to any graduate student attending a Delaware higher education institution who:
1. Is currently enrolled full-time or part-time in a graduate degree program;
2. Has completed at least 18 graduate credit hours in that degree program;
3. Has a graduate GPA of 3.25 or above; and
4. Is a member of the American Society for Public Administration (ASPA) or DAPA.
The
Public Service Award was developed almost 40 years ago to recognize a public administrator who has made substantial contributions to professional public management and service in Delaware. The first award was presented in 1974, and the criteria established for the first award continues to guide the selection process today.
Awards Eligibility
Awards winners are selected from all levels of public service—local, state and federal government and nonprofit organizations. Eligibility also includes individuals from the private sector who have made significant contributions in public service in Delaware. Nominees will be considered on the basis of two primary selection criteria: commitment and dedication to public service and/or leadership in public service. Specific examples of these criteria are provided below.
Commitment and Dedication to Public Service
- Has made a profound difference in improving service to the public
- Fostered a more democratic society
- Served as a champion of social equity
Leadership in Public Service
- Been willing to take risks to achieve change
- Changing the way a government or nonprofit organization operates
- Serving as a role model for other public servants
The recipient of this award is recognized at the Annual Awards Dinner.
