How many people attend ASPA’s Annual Conference?
We expect approximately 1300 practitioners and academics to be in Washington, D.C. this March for the 2019 event.
Do I have to be a member to attend the conference?
No, you do not need to be a member to attend. However, you do need login information to access the website registration form. Please contact us
if you need your username and password. Please do NOT create a new profile in our system simply to register
—you are likely to be charged an incorrect registration rate or have other challenges with your registration process. If this is an emergency and is during normal business hours (Eastern time), please call us at 202-393-7878 for immediate assistance.
I have put in a proposal. When will I hear if I have been accepted?
Notifications should go out to all accepted papers/panels/workshops in mid-November, though the process of notifying all of those who submitted a proposal can take upwards of a week. Those rejected will also be notified so you should receive an email from us either way. Please be patient with this process.
What is the dress code for the conference?
Most of the conference is business casual attire, unless you’re attending a special event that is labeled for more formal dress.
Will nursing rooms be available?
Yes, the host hotel, the Mayflower, is happy to work with our attendees to provide a nursing room for those in need. If you are attending the conference and need access to a nursing room, please contact us
so we can secure space. Please note: You must contact us if you will need this assistance. The Mayflower will not provide the room if our attendees do not request it.
I am a panelist/presenter at the conference. Where can I find resources to assist me with my presentation?
Please visit our Presenters Guidelines page
on our website for most of the information you will need to put together an excellent presentation. If you have further questions, please contact our conference manager, Amy Omang
, for assistance.
I am a student. What events can I attend just for me?
Friday’s Student Summit is an excellent place to start. You might also be interested in the Founders’ Fellows panels, as those are all specifically focused on student and new professional research being presented at the conference. Please also look at our Chapter and Section meeting list for the Student and New Administration Professional Section meeting. That Section is a group of students and new professionals, looking at issues specific to that demographic. You should check out what they’re up to and make sure to participate. Finally, networking receptions in the evenings are a great place to meet other attendees in general and start getting to know people.
These events will help you meet other people in your cohort and make new connections that will be useful during the conference and beyond. Dates and times for all of these are coming soon.
Where do I find a PDF of the registration form?
Please find a link to the PDF form at the bottom of our registration page
Why am I getting an error page when I try to register?

all of the requests. Please have patience. If you have submitted a

What is the difference between the registration fees?
ASPA offers three different options for attending our conference:
- Full conference registration (all five days)
- Track registration (limited attendance, subject-area specific)
- One-day registration (you’re only able to attend one day)
You will need to determine how much of the conference you are interested in attending, and then select your registration fee based on your personal needs.
Please note that we enforce registrations and check badges onsite. You will not be permitted to attend the entire conference if you are not registered for all five days.
Can I register for multiple one-day fees?
Unfortunately, no. If you are going to be at the event for more than one day, you will need to either register at a track rate or for the full five-day event.
For the first time, ASPA has minimized its conference tracks
to only five so that those attendees interested in doing so may focus their experience on one specific area. As three of these tracks will not take place through all five days of the conference, we are offering track registration rates for those who only wish to attend panels related to those areas (Public Finance, Infrastructure, Social Equity).
Please note: If you register at the track rate, you may attend only that track, limiting your days at the conference to those days on which the track topics will be presented. For instance, if you register for the Social Equity track, you may attend the conference March 10-12 only, the days on which we will be presenting social equity topics.
If you wish to attend the conference on days outside of the specific track in which you are interested, you will need to register for the full conference. Make sure you give careful thought to the events you wish to attend outside the panels to ensure you are registered for the appropriate days.
Is the Welcome Reception included in my track registration rate?
Only if you’re registered for the finance track, which takes place March 8-9. If you are registered for the Infrastructure Track, taking place March 10-11, or the Social Equity track, taking place March 10-12, you will not have access to the Welcome Reception, as that takes place the evening of March 9. You may pay a special guest fee to attend the Welcome Reception beyond your track rate.
When is the deadline to cancel my registration?
If you register for the conference and are unable to attend, you may apply for a full refund by Dec. 31, 2018. Visit our registration page
to see our cancellation policy.
